Editorial: Resign already, Councilmembers Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo should resign from their District 4 seats so their services are no longer needed
I agree with Mayor Garcetti, that for the good of our democracy our Councilmembers have an obligation to step down. The problem with this is that we have two of them that have been there forever, that the public recognizes as such. They both serve at the pleasure of the City Council. They have served for 12 years since they first took office. Gil Cedillo is only seven years away from his 72nd birthday. He has led the council for the last decade. And maybe we don’t need all of our current Councilmembers, and maybe we don’t need Councilmember De León. It would give time to bring someone in that can bring some fresh ideas and fresh perspectives, at least for the interim, but also to have someone on the other side. That is why I think it has to be a different type of councilmember who has been with us a lot longer. It would also
